Dr. Paul Winkler

Dr. Paul Winkler’s commitment to social causes was developed, encouraged, and learned from his parents and grandmother through their community involvement. His professional career spanned 50 years. From his days as a teacher and administrator to an Assistant Commissioner in the State Department of Education, to his final role leading the office that oversees the development of curriculum and programs related to the Holocaust and other acts of genocide and repression, he was a mentor, a leader, and an inspiration to countless teachers and students.

As Executive Director of the NJ Commission on Holocaust Education, Dr. Winkler gave teachers a roadmap for teaching sensitive topics to teens and children. Dr. Winkler’s efforts resulted in the establishment of the Commission on Holocaust Education in New Jersey and the Holocaust/genocide mandate, which was signed into law in 1994.

Given Dr. Winkler’s commitment to Holocaust education, his Life & Legacy gift is in support of JFCS’ Café Europa, a monthly socialization program for Holocaust survivors.
